About the test

A coprogram is a comprehensive laboratory assessment of stool properties that may complement investigation of digestion and intestinal symptoms. Depending on the test programme, external, chemical and microscopic characteristics are assessed. Changes help the doctor determine the direction of further investigation but do not directly measure the function of every digestive organ.

Targeted tests for parasites, occult blood, calprotectin or pancreatic elastase cannot automatically be assumed to be included: separate services may be available in the catalogue. The doctor assesses the result together with symptoms, medical history and other investigations. The reference values of the individual laboratory are used for comparison, and changes over time are considered during follow-up.

Why it is ordered

  • Assess general laboratory properties of stool.
  • Complement investigation of digestive disorders.

How to prepare

Before taking the test, check the preparation and specimen collection requirements with the laboratory. Tell your doctor about medicines and recent treatment. Do not stop prescribed medicines on your own.
