Vitamin D is involved in calcium and phosphorus metabolism, maintenance of bone tissue and the function of other body systems. Its different forms are measured for different clinical questions: assessing vitamin supply or clarifying particular disorders of its metabolism.
The price-list name does not specify the measured form. Check this with the laboratory before ordering: for example, 25(OH)D and 1,25(OH)2D are not interchangeable. Interpretation and the need for additional investigations depend on the form measured, clinical information, calcium levels and kidney function.
