About the test

The test targets human papillomavirus types 16, 18, 31, 33, 35, 39, 45, 51, 52, 56, 58 and 59 genetic material in a scraping specimen. Genotyping helps distinguish the virus types in the specified list. This is not a test for all existing HPV types.

Detection of HPV does not mean that a person has cancer. The significance of the result is determined by the virus type and examination findings; the test does not replace cytology and clinical examination when indicated.

Why it is ordered

  • Detect the HPV types covered by the test.
  • Complement assessment of the risk of cervical changes when ordered by a doctor.

How to prepare

Before taking the test, ask the laboratory about preparation and specimen collection requirements. Tell your doctor about medicines and recent treatment. Do not stop prescribed medicines on your own.
