Laboratory recommendations
This includes: semen analysis and the MAR test.
Main requirements
- Sexual abstinence: strictly 3 to 5 days (neither shorter nor longer). Failure to follow these periods directly leads to severe distortion of sperm morphology and motility measurements.
- Exclusions: during the abstinence period, completely avoid alcohol (including beer), smoking and any changes to your medication without agreement with your doctor. Bathhouses, saunas, hot baths and physiotherapy are strictly prohibited (avoid overheating the testicles).
- Previous illness: if you have had episodes of high temperature, fever or acute infectious disease in the previous 1.5–2 months, the test must be postponed.
- Collection and delivery: collect the entire ejaculate (all portions) by masturbation into a sterile container in a designated room at the laboratory. Condoms, interrupted intercourse and collection at home are prohibited. The specimen must be submitted for testing immediately.
