About the test
The test assesses glucose excretion in urine over 24 hours and differs from measuring its concentration in a single sample. It may complement investigation of glucosuria associated with elevated blood sugar, renal transport or the effects of treatment. The complete urine volume from the agreed collection period is important for the calculation.
Inaccurate collection alters the result. Even 24-hour urine glucose does not replace blood measurements for assessment of diabetes control and does not reflect all blood sugar fluctuations. The doctor assesses the result together with symptoms, medical history and other investigations. The reference values of the individual laboratory are used for comparison, and changes over time are considered during follow-up.
