About the test

Proteinase 3 is one of the proteins found in neutrophils. Anti-PR3 antibodies are markers tested when ANCA-associated vasculitis is suspected, including granulomatosis with polyangiitis.

This is not a general test for all autoimmune diseases. The result is considered alongside signs of organ involvement, other antibodies and investigations; on its own it neither confirms nor excludes vasculitis.

Why it is ordered

  • Measure antibodies to proteinase 3.
  • Complement investigation for ANCA-associated vasculitis when indicated.

How to prepare

Before taking the test, ask the laboratory about preparation and specimen collection requirements. Tell your doctor about medicines and recent treatment. Do not stop prescribed medicines on your own.
