About the test
PCR searches for the organism’s genetic material in urine. The test detects material from Candida fungi; the range of species detected depends on the test system used.
Candida may be present on mucous membranes without disease. A positive result does not, by itself, distinguish carriage from inflammation or replace culture with susceptibility testing when that is necessary.
A urine test concerns this specimen and does not exclude the presence of the organism at other sites in the body. The result is assessed alongside symptoms and the results of other ordered tests.

- Complement testing when the relevant infection is clinically suspected.
How to prepare
Before taking the test, ask the laboratory about preparation and specimen collection requirements. Tell your doctor about medicines and recent treatment. Do not stop prescribed medicines on your own.
