About the test
PCR searches for the organism’s genetic material in a scraping specimen. Gardnerella vaginalis is associated with changes in the vaginal microbiota that may accompany bacterial vaginosis.
Detection of a single microorganism does not replace assessment of the full clinical picture. Gardnerella may be present without symptoms, so the result is not equivalent to an independent diagnosis of vaginosis.
The scraping site should correspond to the purpose of the investigation. The result is assessed alongside symptoms and the results of other ordered tests.

- Complement testing when the relevant infection is clinically suspected.
How to prepare
