About the test

This test detects IgG antibodies to the hepatitis A virus. IgG usually reflects a previous infection or an immune response after vaccination. It is used to assess immune status when clinically indicated.

IgG does not determine current hepatitis activity and does not replace IgM when acute illness is suspected. The meaning of the result depends on the clinical question and vaccination history; a doctor provides the interpretation.

Why it is ordered

  • Assess the antibody response following contact with HAV or vaccination.
  • Clarify serological status alongside clinical information.

How to prepare

Before taking the test, ask the laboratory about preparation and specimen collection requirements. Tell your doctor about medicines and recent treatment. Do not stop prescribed medicines on your own.
