About the test
A confirmatory HBsAg ELISA clarifies the initial reactivity detected to the hepatitis B virus surface antigen. Detection of HBsAg may indicate a current infection. To assess its nature, the doctor considers other hepatitis B markers, liver test results and, if necessary, viral DNA.
A single result does not distinguish acute from chronic hepatitis and does not assess immunity after vaccination. The confirmation procedure depends on the test system and laboratory algorithm used.
