About the test

The test detects hepatitis B virus DNA, rather than antibodies to it. The qualitative format reports detection or no detection of viral material within the sensitivity limits of the method.

The result is considered alongside serological markers, liver test results and medical history. A negative result depends on the test’s sensitivity and the timing of specimen collection; the result is not intended as a basis for changing treatment on your own.

Why it is ordered

  • Assess the viral marker according to the test format selected.
  • Complement diagnosis or monitoring when ordered by a doctor.

How to prepare

Before taking the test, ask the laboratory about preparation and specimen collection requirements. Tell your doctor about medicines and recent treatment. Do not stop prescribed medicines on your own.
