About the test
This ELISA detects antibodies to the hepatitis C virus, anti-HCV, in the blood. Antibodies reflect the immune response following contact with the virus, but may persist after recovery or successful treatment. An HCV RNA test is usually required to establish a current infection.
This test alone does not determine viral load, infectiousness or the presence of protective immunity. Antibodies may not yet be present at an early stage. A reactive result is assessed according to the accepted diagnostic algorithm.

- Determine whether further testing for a current infection is needed.
