About the test

High-sensitivity CRP measures low concentrations of C-reactive protein and may complement assessment of cardiovascular risk. Unlike a standard CRP test, this option is designed to assess low levels of the inflammatory marker. The result is considered together with the lipid profile, blood pressure, smoking, diabetes and other risk factors.

An acute infection or other active inflammation may temporarily increase CRP and interfere with assessment of chronic risk. The test does not diagnose narrowed blood vessels or a heart attack. The doctor assesses the result together with symptoms, medical history and other investigations. The reference values of the individual laboratory are used for comparison, and changes over time are considered during follow-up.

Why it is ordered

  • Measure low CRP concentrations.
  • Complement individual cardiovascular risk assessment.
