About the test

This test detects IgG to Mycoplasma pneumoniae, a bacterium capable of causing respiratory tract infections. IgG may reflect previous contact and persist after illness. A single positive result does not confirm that this bacterium is causing the current symptoms.

Serology has specificity limitations and depends on the timing of the illness; changes in paired samples are sometimes significant. Appropriate nucleic acid detection methods are preferred for diagnosing acute infection. The doctor determines the testing approach in the context of the clinical presentation.

Why it is ordered

  • Complement testing when M. pneumoniae is suspected.
  • Assess serological information alongside other methods.

How to prepare

Before taking the test, ask the laboratory about preparation and specimen collection requirements. Tell your doctor about medicines and recent treatment. Do not stop prescribed medicines on your own.
