About the test
Prostatic secretion testing is used as an additional stage of investigation for particular urological symptoms. The material consists of prostate gland secretions and may provide information about inflammatory changes, depending on the method used. The doctor and laboratory determine whether secretions should be obtained and the exact test components.
A single result does not confirm bacterial prostatitis. Culture, susceptibility testing and PCR should not be assumed to be included unless separately specified. The doctor assesses the result together with symptoms, medical history and other investigations. The reference values of the individual laboratory are used for comparison, and changes over time are considered during follow-up.
