About the test

This test detects IgG antibodies to the rubella virus. IgG is used to assess the immune response after a previous infection or vaccination, including during pregnancy planning when ordered by a doctor.

The presence of IgG does not mean a current acute infection. The result is assessed using the laboratory method’s thresholds and vaccination history; if illness is suspected, the doctor selects additional tests.

Why it is ordered

  • Assess the presence of antibodies to rubella.
  • Clarify the result in the context of vaccination and the clinical situation.

How to prepare

Before taking the test, ask the laboratory about preparation and specimen collection requirements. Tell your doctor about medicines and recent treatment. Do not stop prescribed medicines on your own.
