About the test

SCCA is an antigen that may be detected in blood in certain squamous cell tumours and non-tumour conditions. It may complement monitoring of established disease and treatment when the doctor considers the measurement appropriate for the situation.

An increase can occur in conditions other than malignant tumours, and a normal result does not exclude disease. The test is not intended as a standalone cancer screening test; it is assessed together with examination, imaging and other investigations. The marker does not independently identify tumour location and does not replace morphological examination.

Why it is ordered

  • Complement investigation ordered by a relevant specialist.
  • Assess changes in the marker during follow-up and treatment.

How to prepare

Before taking the test, check the preparation and specimen collection requirements with the laboratory. Tell your doctor about medicines and recent treatment. Do not stop prescribed medicines on your own.
