About the test

Stool examination helps detect parasitic forms that may be passed through the intestine, including helminth eggs and certain protozoa. The test is used for relevant intestinal symptoms, exposures and epidemiological history. The range of parasites detected and sensitivity depend on sample processing and the laboratory method used.

Not all parasites are detected by conventional stool examination, and shedding may be intermittent. A negative result does not replace targeted investigation if suspicion persists. The doctor assesses the result together with symptoms, medical history and other investigations. The reference values of the individual laboratory are used for comparison, and changes over time are considered during follow-up.

Why it is ordered

  • Detect intestinal parasitic forms.
  • Clarify the causes of symptoms according to epidemiological indications.
