About the test
The test looks for antibodies that the immune system may produce after HIV infection. The name of this service specifies antibodies; p24 antigen testing or viral load should not be regarded as included without confirmation from the laboratory.
Antibodies may not yet be detectable at an early stage. A reactive screening result requires further confirmation according to the accepted algorithm, while a negative result following a recent risk may require reassessment. The timing and subsequent steps are discussed with a doctor.
