About the test
Total IgE is an overall measure of antibodies of this class, associated, among other things, with allergic reactions. It does not show which specific allergen the body reacts to.
Elevations occur in conditions other than allergy, and a normal result does not exclude all allergic diseases. To clarify the cause of symptoms, the doctor may order targeted tests and compare them with the symptom history.
