About the test
PCR searches for the organism’s genetic material in urine. The test is intended to detect Ureaplasma parvum, one of the Ureaplasma species.
Carriage of this species is common and does not, by itself, confirm the cause of urogenital symptoms. A doctor, rather than a single positive result, determines whether investigation and treatment are needed.
A urine test concerns this specimen and does not exclude the presence of the organism at other sites in the body. The result is assessed alongside symptoms and the results of other ordered tests.
Why it is ordered
- Detect Ureaplasma parvum genetic material in the specified specimen.
- Complement testing when the relevant infection is clinically suspected.
How to prepare
Before taking the test, ask the laboratory about preparation and specimen collection requirements. Tell your doctor about medicines and recent treatment. Do not stop prescribed medicines on your own.
