Ureaplasmosis IgM

This test detects IgM antibodies to Ureaplasma targets included in the laboratory test system. The organism’s species is not specified in the name. This is not direct detection of Ureaplasma in the urogenital tract. The presence of antibodies alone does not mean that the cause of inflammation has been identified or that treatment is necessary.

The diagnostic value of this serology is limited and depends on the method and clinical question. Ureaplasmas may occur without disease; antibody class does not reliably establish how long ago infection occurred. A doctor determines whether testing is necessary and which method is appropriate; the species and antigen should be clarified with the laboratory.
