About the test

The test concerns investigation of Yersinia enterocolitica, one of the bacteria that cause intestinal yersiniosis. Infection may cause diarrhoea, fever and abdominal pain; inflammatory complications sometimes follow. The price list specifies serum without naming the exact marker, so this test cannot automatically be equated with detecting bacteria in stool.

To confirm a current intestinal infection, the doctor chooses an appropriate method according to symptoms and disease timing. An isolated serological result does not prove the presence of a living pathogen. The doctor assesses the result together with symptoms, medical history and other investigations. The reference values of the individual laboratory are used for comparison, and changes over time are considered during follow-up.

Why it is ordered

  • Complement investigation of yersiniosis when ordered.
  • Compare the result with intestinal and extraintestinal manifestations.

How to prepare

Before taking the test, check the preparation and specimen collection requirements with the laboratory. Tell your doctor about medicines and recent treatment. Do not stop prescribed medicines on your own.
