About the test
This test detects IgG antibodies to Ascaris, associated with ascariasis. This examines the immune response, rather than searching for the parasite itself. Antibodies may persist after a previous infection; cross-reactions with other parasites are possible. In intestinal ascariasis, detection of parasite eggs in stool provides the main confirmation; antibodies do not replace this test.
The presence of antibodies does not automatically indicate active disease or the need for treatment. The significance of the result depends on symptoms, suspected contact, immune status and confirmatory information; a negative test early after infection does not always exclude infection.

Before taking the test, ask the laboratory about preparation and specimen collection requirements. Tell your doctor about medicines and recent treatment. Do not stop prescribed medicines on your own.
