About the test
The bacteriological method assesses growth of microorganisms that can be cultured in the conditions provided by the laboratory. It does not describe the entire microbiome or constitute a comprehensive analysis of the microbiota.
The term “dysbiosis” does not, by itself, establish the cause of symptoms. The list of microorganisms and specimen should be clarified; the result is not an independent basis for selecting antibiotics, probiotics or a diet.
Why it is ordered
- Assess the range of culturable microorganisms covered by the laboratory.
- Discuss the result with a doctor in the context of specific symptoms.
How to prepare
Before taking the test, ask the laboratory about preparation and specimen collection requirements. Tell your doctor about medicines and recent treatment. Do not stop prescribed medicines on your own.
