Laboratory recommendations

This includes: stool analysis, helminths, calprotectin, pancreatic elastase and intestinal dysbiosis tests.

The specimen must be obtained exclusively through a natural bowel movement.

Main requirements

  • Restrictions: stool must not be collected after using enemas, taking laxatives, inserting rectal suppositories, or taking castor oil, liquid paraffin, iron preparations, bismuth or activated charcoal.
  • Collection: use the spoon built into the lid of a clean disposable container to collect stool from 3–5 different areas of the bowel movement. Do not allow urine, water or genital discharge into the container. The recommended specimen amount is 1–2 teaspoons.
  • Storage: deliver the specimen to the laboratory on the day of collection. Before transport, keep the container in the refrigerator at +2…+8°C (for no longer than 10–12 hours; for an intestinal dysbiosis test, deliver it as quickly as possible, strictly within 2–3 hours).
  • Perianal sampling for enterobiasis (КП.001): performed in the morning, immediately after getting out of bed, strictly before hygiene procedures, washing or a bowel movement.
