About the test

The test measures IgG antibodies to Borrelia as part of an investigation of tick-borne borreliosis, or Lyme disease. IgG generally becomes more informative as the immune response develops and may persist long after an infection. Serological assessment follows an accepted multistep algorithm, together with symptoms and the likelihood of contact with an infected tick.

An early negative result does not exclude Lyme disease. A positive IgG result does not mean active infection and is not suitable for proving cure after treatment. The doctor assesses the result together with symptoms, medical history and other investigations. The reference values of the individual laboratory are used for comparison, and changes over time are considered during follow-up.

Why it is ordered

  • Investigate IgG when Lyme disease is clinically suspected.
  • Complement an established serological diagnostic algorithm.
