About the test

PCR searches for the organism’s genetic material in urine. Chlamydiae are a group of bacteria; some cause urogenital tract infections.

The designation spp. does not specify the range of species detected. This test should not automatically be regarded as a separate test exclusively for Chlamydia trachomatis.

A urine test concerns this specimen and does not exclude the presence of the organism at other sites in the body. The result is assessed alongside symptoms and the results of other ordered tests.

Why it is ordered

  • Detect Chlamydia spp. genetic material in the specified specimen.
  • Complement testing when the relevant infection is clinically suspected.

How to prepare

Before taking the test, ask the laboratory about preparation and specimen collection requirements. Tell your doctor about medicines and recent treatment. Do not stop prescribed medicines on your own.
