A reduced concentration may indicate insufficient pancreatic enzyme secretion; the test is used for relevant symptoms and monitoring of certain diseases.
Liquid stool may dilute the sample and reduce the measured concentration. A normal result does not always exclude mild insufficiency; assessment depends on the clinical picture.
