About the test
The test targets human papillomavirus types 16 and 18 genetic material in a scraping specimen. The quantitative format assesses the amount of viral material in the specimen tested. Units and assessment rules depend on the test system.
Detection of HPV does not mean that a person has cancer. The significance of the result is determined by the virus type and examination findings; the test does not replace cytology and clinical examination when indicated.
